The first part of V for Vendetta establishes two central themes of the graphic novel: the ubiquity of tyranny, and the importance of symbols, masks, and disguises. The two top families in Verona hate each other and their young bucks regularly scrap. But if you want something that will make you believe, at least for 2 hours, that you are going to do something about US policy, the movie will treat you better than the book.

The corruption of this futuristic English state is clear. It can also make for highly entertaining reading.
